A significant risk associated with nasal injuries relates to the potential for large blood loss, which can result in shock. The nasal cavity is highly vascularized, meaning that it contains many blood vessels. When an injury occurs—such as a fracture or severe trauma—these vessels can bleed profusely. If the bleeding is substantial and not controlled, it may lead to hypovolemic shock, a condition where the body does not have enough blood to circulate adequately, causing critical organ functions to be compromised.

While infection of the nasal cavity, permanent loss of smell, and fever and chills can be concerns associated with nasal injuries, they do not pose the immediate life-threatening situation that significant blood loss and shock can cause. Shock requires prompt medical attention and intervention, making the awareness of this risk paramount in emergency response situations.
